   Gandhi Global Family’s Peace Gathering in Utrecht and GGF-URI Collaboration

On April 30, 2025, I had the privilege of attending a local peace gathering organized by the Gandhi Global Family (GGF) in Utrecht, Netherlands. This event was dedicated to promoting peace, nonviolence, and global brotherhood, inspired by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. The gathering featured insightful speeches by Ms. Morgana Sythove, a leader of GGF and the Secretary of the United Religions Initiative (URI) Netherlands, and Ms. Sousan. Both speakers emphasized the need for collaboration between GGF and URI in European Union (EU) countries to foster peace, nonviolence, and fraternity. As representatives of GGF’s Central Committee, my presence along with Mrs. Krishna Kanta added enthusiasm and significance to the event.

   The peace gathering in Utrecht was part of GGF’s global mission to implement Gandhian principles—nonviolence, truth, and inclusive community-building—at the local level. The event brought together individuals from diverse religious, cultural, and community backgrounds, aligning with URI’s “World Peace and Friendship Movement.” URI, which promotes interfaith cooperation, played a pivotal role in the gathering. In her address, Morgana Sythove stressed that the rising socio-political challenges in Europe, such as polarization and intolerance, can only be addressed through collective and nonviolent efforts.

Sousan, in her remarks, highlighted the relevance of Gandhi’s principle of nonviolence in the modern context. She stated, “Nonviolence is not merely the absence of violence but an active process that brings positive change in society through love, compassion, and dialogue.” She presented the collaboration between URI and GGF as a model that empowers local communities and inspires peacebuilding initiatives.

    The partnership between GGF and URI is a significant step toward promoting peace and fraternity in EU countries. GGF, dedicated to disseminating Gandhi’s teachings globally, and URI, focused on interfaith cooperation, are jointly implementing various initiatives. These include peace workshops, youth empowerment programs, and community dialogues. During the gathering, it was decided that both organizations would collaborate to promote peace education in schools and universities across Europe. Additionally, projects focusing on social inclusion and environmental sustainability will be prioritized.

     As representatives of GGF’s Central Committee, Mrs. Krishna Kanta and I actively participated in the event. We engaged with the local community and shared GGF’s global vision. In her address, Mrs. Krishna Kanta emphasized the role of women and youth in peacebuilding, stating, “Women and youth are transformative agents of society. By adopting Gandhian principles of nonviolence, they can pave the way for social justice and equality.” Our presence energized the local organizers and participants, strengthening their connection with GGF’s global network.

    The GGF peace gathering in Utrecht marked a significant step in promoting the principles of peace, nonviolence, and fraternity. The collaboration between GGF and URI demonstrated that unity and cooperation among diverse organizations and communities can address global challenges. The inspiring words of Morgana Sythov and Sousan motivated the participants, while the presence of GGF’s Central Committee enhanced the event’s impact. This gathering was not only a local event but also a symbol of the global dissemination of Gandhian ideals and their application in the modern context.
