चौक चरखी से बुलबुल बाजार तक का सफर बहुत ही यादगार और ऐतिहासिक महत्व से भरा हुआ है। यह यात्रा न केवल शहर की पुरानी सड़कों से गुजरती है, बल्कि स्वतंत्रता संग्राम की एक वीरांगना की कहानी को भी जीवंत करती है। इसी चौक से आगे बुलबुल बाजार की शुरुआत होती है, जो पानीपत के व्यस्त और जीवंत बाजारों में से एक है। बुलबुल एक प्रसिद्ध तवायफ थीं, जिनका नाच और गाना सुनने के लिए बड़े-बड़े अंग्रेज अधिकारी दूर-दूर से आया करते थे। उनकी कला इतनी मोहक थी कि ब्रिटिश अधिकारी उनके प्रदर्शन के दीवाने थे, लेकिन बुलबुल के दिल में देशभक्ति की ज्वाला जल रही थी। वह अंग्रेजों और उनके अत्याचारों से घोर नफरत करती थीं। उन्होंने कभी भी अपनी कला को ब्रिटिश हुकूमत की सेवा में नहीं लगाया, बल्कि इसे स्वतंत्रता की लड़ाई का माध्यम बनाया।

एक दिन, जब एक अंग्रेज अधिकारी सीढ़ियों से चढ़कर उनके पास आ रहा था, तो बुलबुल ने साहसपूर्वक उस पर गोली चला दी। अंग्रेज अधिकारी मौके पर ही मारा गया। इस घटना के बाद बुलबुल को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। उन पर मुकदमा चला, और ब्रिटिश अदालत ने उन्हें फांसी की सजा सुना दी। वह वीरांगना फांसी के फंदे पर लटककर शहीद हो गईं। उनकी इस देशभक्ति और बलिदान की स्मृति में इस बाजार का नाम 'बुलबुल बाजार' पड़ा। इस घटना ने ब्रिटिश सरकार को इतना झकझोर दिया कि उन्होंने नाच-गाने पर ही पाबंदी लगा दी, ताकि ऐसी कोई अन्य विद्रोही गतिविधि न हो सके। समय के साथ, कुछ लोग इस बाजार को 'सुभाष बाजार' भी कहने लगे हैं, जो शायद नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस की याद में   ऐतिहासिक संदर्भ से जुड़ा  है।

इस बाजार के चौक में ही श्री सुलेख चंद जैन की भव्य हवेली स्थित है, जो पुरानी वास्तुकला का नमूना है। इसके ठीक बगल में निर्मल जैन का निवास स्थान था। चौक के सामने अग्रवाल बंधुओं का घर था, जो अब आधुनिक दुकानों में बदल चुका है। यहां अब चावला बूट हाउस, सूरी ज्वेलर्स, ए-वन कपड़े की दुकान और महिलाओं के सूट की विशेष दुकानें हैं, जहां स्थानीय लोग रोजमर्रा की खरीदारी करते हैं। थोड़ा आगे बढ़ने पर सानू पंसारी की दुकान मिलती है, जहां मसाले और अन्य किराने का सामान उपलब्ध होता है। इसके सामने एक मेडिकल स्टोर है, जो इलाके के लोगों के लिए स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं का केंद्र है। यहां से कायस्थों के मोहल्ले 'उपराही' से होते हुए तलाई और घाटी बार की ओर रास्ता जाता है, जो पानीपत के अन्य हिस्सों को जोड़ता है।

बाजार में और आगे चलकर बीजों और तंबाकू की दुकानें हैं, जहां किसान और स्थानीय व्यापारी आते-जाते रहते हैं। फिर बाएं हाथ की ओर मोहल्ला दर्जीयान है, जो दर्जियों और शिल्पकारों का गढ़ रहा है। इसी मोहल्ले में पानीपत के प्रसिद्ध चिकित्सक वैद्य नारायण दत्त की दुकान हुआ करती थी, जहां लोग दूर-दूर से इलाज के लिए आते थे। उनके सामने ही लाला शुगन चंद रोशन द्वारा बनवाया गया 'रोशन महल' है, जो अपनी शानदार संरचना के लिए जाना जाता है। इसे 'मोहल्ला स्पाटू वाला' भी कहा जाता है, जो Aggarwal सिंगला परिवार की स्पातू यात्रा से जुड़ा है। यह बाजार अंत में कायस्थ मोहल्ले की ओर मुड़कर एक गली में समाप्त हो जाता है, जहां से शहर की अन्य गलियां शुरू होती हैं। यह पूरा इलाका पानीपत की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक और ऐतिहासिक विरासत का प्रतीक है, जो वर्तमान में भी जीवंत बना हुआ है।

The journey from the lanes of Charkhi in Panipat to Bulbul Bazaar is truly memorable and steeped in historical significance. This path not only winds through the old streets of the city but also brings to life the story of a brave patriot from the freedom struggle. Right from this chowk, Bulbul Bazaar begins, which is one of the bustling and vibrant markets in Panipat. Bulbul was a renowned tawaif (courtesan), whose dance and songs attracted high-ranking British officers from far and wide. Her artistry was so captivating that English officials were enchanted by her performances, but deep in her heart, Bulbul harbored a fierce patriotism. She despised the British and their atrocities, never allowing her talents to serve the colonial regime but instead using them as a means for the fight for independence.

One day, as a British officer was climbing the stairs to reach her, Bulbul courageously shot him. The officer died on the spot. Following this incident, Bulbul was arrested. She was put on trial, and the British court sentenced her to death by hanging. This patriotic heroine was executed on the gallows, becoming a martyr. In memory of her patriotism and sacrifice, this market was named 'Bulbul Bazaar'. The event shook the British government so profoundly that they imposed a ban on dancing and singing to prevent any similar rebellious activities. Over time, some people have started calling this market 'Subhash Bazaar', possibly in honor of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose .

In this chowk of the market stands the grand haveli of Shri Sulekh Chand Jain, a fine example of old architecture. Right next to it was the residence of Nirmal Jain. Opposite to it was the house of the Aggarwal brothers, which has now transformed into modern shops. Today, it houses Chawla Boot House, Suri Jewelers, A-One clothing store, and shops specializing in ladies' suits, where locals come for their daily shopping needs. A little further ahead is Sanu Pansari's shop, offering spices and other grocery items. Across from it is a medical store, serving as a health hub for the neighborhood. From here, a path leads through the 'Uparahi' locality of the Kayasths towards Talai and Ghati Bar, connecting to other parts of Panipat.

Further into the market, there are shops selling seeds and tobacco, frequented by farmers and local traders. Then, on the left side, is Mohalla Darziyan, a hub for tailors and artisans. In this very mohalla was the shop of Panipat's famous physician, Vaid Narayan Dutt, where people from distant places would come for treatment. Opposite to it stands 'Roshan Mahal', built by Lala Shugan Chand Roshan, known for its magnificent structure. It is also referred to as 'Mohalla Spatu Wala', likely tied to some local legend or name. The market eventually turns towards the Kayasth Mohalla and ends in a narrow lane, from where other alleys of the city begin. This entire area symbolizes Panipat's rich cultural and historical heritage, which remains vibrant even today.
