"यासिर अराफात से हाथ मिलाने की यादगार घड़ी"

    नवंबर 1997 का वह दिन मेरे जीवन का एक अविस्मरणीय पल बन गया, जब मुझे फिलिस्तीनी नेता यासिर अराफात से हाथ मिलाने का सौभाग्य मिला। वे भारत के तीन दिवसीय दौरे पर आए थे और उसी क्रम में ऑल इंडिया पीस एंड सॉलिडैरिटी ऑर्गनाइजेशन तथा भारत-अरब लीग द्वारा आयोजित एक स्वागत सभा में शामिल होने का मौका मिला।  

  उस दिन का दृश्य आज भी मेरी आँखों के सामने ताजा है। सभा में दीदी निर्मला देशपांडे जी भी उपस्थित थीं, जिन्होंने मुझे अपने साथ ले जाने का निर्णय लिया। मैं उत्सुकता और संकोच के मिश्रित भावों से भरा हुआ था। यासिर अराफात का भाषण अरबी भाषा में था, जिसका हिंदी में अनुवाद किया जा रहा था। उनके शब्दों में फिलिस्तीन की आजादी की लड़ाई की गूँज साफ़ सुनाई दे रही थी। भाषण के अंत में जब वे स्टेज से उतरे और लोगों से हाथ मिलाने लगे, तो मैं पीछे हट गया। तभी दीदी ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा, "तुम भी तो क्रांतिकारी हो, जाओ हाथ मिलाओ!"

   उनके इस प्रोत्साहन ने मेरे भीतर का डर दूर कर दिया। मैं आगे बढ़ा और यासिर अराफात से हाथ मिलाया। उनकी मुस्कान और गर्मजोशी ने मुझे अभिभूत कर दिया। हालाँकि मैं उनसे पूरी तरह अपरिचित था, लेकिन उनके संघर्ष के प्रति मेरे मन में गहरा सम्मान था। उस पल का गर्व आज भी मेरे दिल को गर्म कर देता है।  

    वह दिन मेरे लिए सिर्फ एक याद ही नहीं, बल्कि एक प्रेरणा बन गया। आज भी मैं दुनियाभर के मुक्ति संघर्षों का समर्थक हूँ, खासकर फिलिस्तीन के अधिकारों का। यासिर अराफात से मिला वह एक छोटा-सा पल मेरे लिए एक बड़े सपने का प्रतीक बन गया—एक ऐसी दुनिया का सपना, जहाँ हर राष्ट्र को आजादी और सम्मान मिले।  

   आज जब भी फिलिस्तीन की आजादी की बात होती है, वह पल फिर से जीवंत हो उठता है। यह सिर्फ एक हाथ मिलाने की घटना नहीं, बल्कि मेरे विश्वासों की पुष्टि करने वाला एक ऐतिहासिक क्षण था, जिसे मैं जीवनभर संजोकर रखूँगा।

That day of November 1997 became an unforgettable moment in my life, when I had the privilege of shaking hands with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. He had come to India on a three-day visit and in the same sequence I got the opportunity to attend a welcome meeting organized by the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization and the India-Arab League.

The scene of that day is still fresh in front of my eyes. Didi Nirmala Deshpande ji was also present in the meeting, who decided to take me along with her. I was filled with a mixed feeling of curiosity and hesitation. Yasser Arafat's speech was in Arabic language, which was being translated into Hindi. The echo of Palestine's freedom struggle was clearly heard in his words. At the end of the speech, when he came down from the stage and started shaking hands with the people, I stepped back. Then Didi said smilingly, "You are also a revolutionary, go and shake hands!"

This encouragement of hers removed the fear within me. I stepped forward and shook hands with Yasser Arafat. His smile and warmth overwhelmed me. Though I was a complete stranger to him, I had a deep respect for his struggle. The pride of that moment still warms my heart. 

That day became not just a memory but an inspiration for me. Even today I support liberation struggles around the world, especially the rights of Palestine. That small moment with Yasser Arafat became a symbol of a bigger dream for me—the dream of a world where every nation enjoys freedom and dignity. 

Today, whenever the freedom of Palestine is discussed, that moment comes alive again. It was not just a handshake but a historic moment that reaffirmed my beliefs and I will cherish it all my life.
